Project contextA portfolio exercise in Meta Ads strategy and decision-making. Businesses, accounts and performance data are fictional; campaign logic, platform terminology, calculations and optimization decisions model a realistic operating environment. A companion handbook extends the discussion to campaign architecture, creative testing, retention, scaling and decisions in a more creative-led environment.

Two different business models

One platform. Different optimization priorities.

The first case study focuses on purchases and value through a catalog-based sales system. The second separates low-cost leads from qualified commercial opportunities. Together, they demonstrate platform understanding and business judgement.

Case study 01 · Simulation

NOVA Living
From catalog signals to efficient sales growth

A 90-day e-commerce case study for a fictional Greek DTC wellness and home-lifestyle brand. Five product sets organize the catalog around different categories and purchase needs, supported by relevant creative.

Business Brief

One catalog.
Different reasons to buy

The challenge goes beyond conversion ads: match catalog product IDs to purchase events, distinguish prospecting from existing demand and provide enough creative variation to address different purchase motivations.

The simulated store spans skincare, drinkware, home fragrance, body care and herbal products. Product sets support relevant creative across categories without unnecessary campaign fragmentation.

Signal architecture

Reliable signals first.
Then optimization and growth.

Browser and server events share an event ID for deduplication. Product content IDs match catalog retailer IDs, while value and currency parameters support purchase-value optimization and accurate reporting.

01

Store action

Product views, searches, basket actions and purchases come from the e-commerce journey.

02

Pixel + CAPI

Browser and server signals improve tracking resilience and match quality without double-counting.

03

Events Manager

Diagnostics check parameters, event coverage, deduplication and domain ownership.

04

Catalog match

Content IDs connect user behaviour to the correct items and product sets.

05

Sales delivery

Meta initially optimizes for purchases, progressing to purchase value when volume is sufficient.

Interface reconstruction

From strategy to account structure

The views below are code-built reconstructions, not screenshots of a live advertiser account. They illustrate how strategy translates into campaign structure, measurement and audience decisions in a representative Meta Ads environment.

DIAGNOSIS: Interest, Shopper and 1% Lookalike audiences show 31–43% simulated overlap, splitting conversion signals across prospecting ad sets.

DECISION: Consolidate the three prospecting ad sets into one broad/Advantage+ structure, retaining existing-customer and recent-purchaser exclusions as account controls.

Message Design

One brand.
Different reasons to choose it

Message design works on two levels: a distinct message for each purchase motivation and an appropriate execution for each placement. Each concept addresses a need or benefit, with framing and copy length adapted to the format.

Optimization Method

Every change starts
with the right diagnosis

Before changing structure, budget or creative, identify what is affecting performance. Examine delivery, signal quality, creative response and the relationship between cost and outcomes, then intervene where the evidence supports it.

Protect the learning phase

Keep budgets and structure stable while initial purchase data accumulates. Monitor creative performance without drawing conclusions from small samples. Around 50 optimization events per ad set over seven days serves as a reference point, not an absolute rule.

Diagnose fragmentation

Check whether prospecting ad sets reach largely the same people and split the available signals. In this scenario, Interest, Shopper and 1% Lookalike audiences show 31–43% overlap as their ad sets approach Learning Limited. The issue is fragmented learning across similar audiences.

Consolidate prospecting

Consolidate the three prospecting ad sets into one broad/Advantage+ structure, maintaining exclusions for recent purchasers and existing customers.

Separate creative testing

Test new concepts in a dedicated Creative Lab to keep the main scaling campaign stable. Document and replace weaker concepts rather than continually changing them within the core campaign.

Progress towards value optimization

Once purchase volume and value parameters are reliable, gradually shift optimization from purchase count towards purchase value, while monitoring efficiency.

CASE STUDY 02 · LEAD GENERATION SIMULATION

ThermaHome
From form submissions to commercially valuable leads

An eight-week simulated lead-generation system for a heat-pump and home energy-upgrade company in Attica. The aim is to attract suitable homeowners with real interest, helping sales focus on contacts who may progress to appointments and quote requests.

Lead Generation Brief

More leads do not always mean
more opportunities

The service targets homeowners in Attica, but property suitability, budget and timing determine commercial fit. Qualification therefore continues beyond form submission through CRM stages.

The simulation compares two conversion paths: a low-friction Meta Instant Form completed inside Facebook or Instagram, and a website consultation form that requires a site visit and may indicate stronger intent.

Retargeting reaches website visitors, engaged video viewers and people who opened a form without submitting it. CRM stages then enable comparison by contact, appointment and quote-request progression, alongside CPL.

CRM & Lead Quality

From form submission
to commercial qualification

A form records a new contact. Its commercial value becomes clearer through subsequent contact, an appointment and a quote request.

Connecting these stages to the originating campaign in the CRM reveals which ads generate meaningful opportunities.

01

Ad engagement

Messages about running costs, suitability or installation attract people with different needs and intent.

02

Form submission

The Meta Instant Form or website form collects contact details and the initial information sales needs.

03

CRM record

Source, campaign and form responses are attached to the contact, keeping attribution clear.

04

Contact and next steps

The team records successful contact, appointments and quote requests.

05

Campaign assessment

Compare campaigns and creatives by the meaningful opportunities they create, alongside form volume.

Interface Reconstruction

From metrics
to campaign decisions

These code-built reconstructions illustrate two decision scenarios rather than live results: why CPL alone cannot evaluate a lead source, and why a small Lookalike audience does not automatically replace broad targeting.

Performance interpretationCPL ≠ CPQL

INTERPRETATION: In this scenario, Instant Forms have the lowest CPL, but not the lowest cost per qualified lead.

DECISION: Evaluate qualification rate and CPQL before reallocating budget, so decisions account for lead quality as well as form cost.

02 · Audience decision

DECISION: Keep broad local targeting as the primary acquisition route. Retain the Lookalike as a controlled test until the seed is larger and more reliable.

Message Design

From technical features
to reasons to choose

A heat pump is more than an equipment purchase. Homeowners need to understand property fit, potential running-cost changes and who manages the process through installation. Creative translates those concerns into clear reasons to consider the service.

Optimization Method

Decisions follow
what happens after the form

Let the campaign gather enough contacts before reacting to early CPL differences. As the CRM records contact, appointments and quote requests, decisions move towards lead quality and commercial value.

Validate the lead journey

Verify events, form questions, UTMs and CRM source fields before assessing campaign performance.

Keep broad delivery stable

Maintain the core audience and avoid early changes based on small CPL differences until sales feedback is sufficient.

Compare lead quality

Compare sources by the share of leads progressing to meaningful contact, appointments or quote requests, alongside submission cost.

Reallocate using CPQL

Move budget towards routes generating qualified leads. Instant Forms can still support volume, with clearer qualification questions.

Test downstream signals

Test qualified-lead audiences only when the CRM provides a sufficient, reliable seed. Until then, broad local delivery remains the main acquisition route.

ANDROMEDA ERA · PRACTITIONER FRAMEWORK

From Blueprint to the Andromeda Era.

Meta Blueprint provides the platform foundation. More demanding accounts call for a broader approach to architecture, creative testing, retention and scaling. This companion handbook organizes practitioner approaches, including Sam Piliero’s methodology, without presenting them as official Meta guidance.

ANDROMEDA ERAPRACTITIONER-INFORMEDACCOUNT ARCHITECTURE

An operating framework for more demanding Meta Ads accounts.

Simpler campaign structures and broad targeting shift strategic work towards signal quality, creative testing, the separation of acquisition from existing demand and decisions grounded in account performance.

The framework centres on Prospecting and Retention. Separate Retargeting and Scale layers are added only when account size, available intent and economics justify them. Structure follows the account’s needs.

CORE 01

Prospecting

Broad acquisition through Avatar + Concept Packs. The concept acts as a hypothesis, with creative increasingly serving as a targeting signal.

CORE 02

Retention

A distinct approach to existing customers and repeat demand, ensuring acquisition does not dominate all account decisions.

OPTIONAL 03

Retargeting

Used when genuine intent and a clear reason justify separate treatment.

OPTIONAL 04

Scale

A separate layer once winning concepts demonstrate reliable signals and economics. Scaling follows evidence.

PROJECT SUMMARY

From the business model
